librarian in Tianyi Pavilion Museum ,who has professionally engaged in the ancient protection 
and repair for 30 years , Mr. Zhao Jiafu, the former Vice Subcommittee in Shanghai Library who 
is the outstanding professor in painting framed, epigraphy, extension mounted ,is the chief 
consultant; Tianjin Ying librarian researcher from the Palace Museum in Beijing, Chen YiShi 
woodblock printing representative in national nonmaterial cultural heritage and Professor Gong 
Decai from USTC are experts as a consultant. DONGDONG books protected Institute is quite good 
at woodblock printing, the ancient paper recycling, the ancient protection and repair. Li Dadong is an association member in China Heritage Association and the Society of Cultural 
Relics Repairhe also is the former vice research librarian in Tianyi Pavilion Museum in Ningbo 
city Zhejiang Province. Since 1981, he has concentrated research in ancient protection and 
repair work, and has accumulated a lot of fruitful experience in practical work. During the past 
10 years, he has presided and participate in the repair of the only existing national treasure 
copies with the number of 414, which are severely dilapidated, motheaten, water stains, mold rot 
and paper crushing, they are imperial examination record in Ming Dynasty. October 11, 2005, Li 
DaDong made a major achievement in rescuing precious national history book, Ningbo Daily, 
television and other domestic news organizations reported this. 1997 in Feng Hua, with master 
Yuan who mined traditional handpapermaking technology workshops of 600year, and also had a common 
research for more than 60 years, Li DaDong did paper experience hundreds of times. And they at 
last successfully produced 10 kinds of highquality bamboo Sang mixing paper ,Pleioblastus paper, 
hemp paper and ancient mixed ingredients quality paper in compliance with applicable in the of 
ancient repair and printing, helping hundreds of libraries and museums solve the urgent need of 
the problem of the paper. This major issue, repeatedly reported as "Cai Lun paper reproduction" 
by Daily Ningbo, Ningbo TV, Tianjin TV, and the China Cultural Relics News and other domestic news 
organizations. Dozens of papers such as “Ming and Qing Shi on the Stone of the Index” , " On 
some of the important features of the ancient repair ", "how to repair books brick ", "Tianyi 
ancient paper analysis and conservation experience", “Tianyi ancient collections Protection 
Experience", "ancient paper made from the existing workshops explore ancient papermaking evolution", 
etc has published in the publications. Li Dadong is included in Contemporary Chinese cultural 
experts content, the World human content, the Chinese big name content, contemporary innovation 
expert literary theory, the world's outstanding experts in talent literary. He participated in the 
first, second, third China Heritage Academic Conference, the Seventh National archaeological and 
heritage preservation chemical Academic Conference, the SinoUS literature protection and restoration 
of the senior seminar and Seventh National Conservation Technical seminars. In 2006, he participated 
in the academic research conference which sponsored by the IFLA Rare Books Manuscripts Commission 
and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, he published the paper “the repair of damaged 
ancient rare manuscripts must comply with the old principles”. After the conference, Susan, the 
Chairman of IFLA Rare Books Manuscripts Commission and Dr. Alan wrote a letter and gave him a high 
evaluation as: " Your speech makes a valuable contribution.”

STATUS AND PURPOSE:
   Ancient books are records of human civilization, which are also an important form of civilization 
heritage and non-renewable cultural resources.
According to statistics, there are about thirty million of ancient books in our libraries and museums, 
about ten million are damaged of varying degrees due to the erosion of years, aging, infestation, 
flooding, mildew, paper brittle rot and other reasons, they are in urgent need of professionals repair. 
Noted in the 2003 report, only a hundred people have professional repair skills in our country, so 
left 20 per person per year to repair, which will last for at least five hundred years, this makes 
us extremely worrying. According to reliable information, for private collection of ancient books 
there are about 35 million to 40 million, the damage number is not optimistic, if these books are 
at an urgent need of repair then things become more difficult. In front of such a grim situation,
